Gunnuhver is one of the most active geothermal area of mud pools and steam vents on the southwest part of the Reykjanes Peninsula. I am not going to lie, the area has a strong smell due to its incredible sulfur vapor.
Gunnuhver hot springs is a very unique area on the island as the groundwater here is 100% seawater, not like any other geothermal areas in Iceland. The colorful minerals in the ground provide vibrant hues, but it can be dangerous too with temperatures over 300°C (570°F) underneath you. People out there remember to stick to the trails. Iceland´s largest mud pool resides at Gunnuhver; it is 20 meters (65 ft) wide. I never been so close to hell on Earth but I loved every minute of it.
